Bill C-406: National Framework for Food Price Transparency

We're all seeing it at the supermarket these days: a reduction in the size or quantity of a product while the price stays the same or is increased. You end up paying more and you’re getting less, which is adding to the cost-of-living crisis. Commonly known as shrinkflation, it's just one tactic large grocery retailers are using to hide the extra profit they are squeezing out of your pockets.

That's why I've introduced Bill C-406, The National Framework for Food Price Transparency Act, which would force companies to abide by clear pricing transparency rules.

This legislation would establish a national framework to improve food price transparency through standardized unit pricing, and public awareness for consumers about shrinkflation practices. Pricing in retail grocery stores shouldn’t lead to confusion: it’s time to change the rules so that you can more easily compare costs and ensure you are able to clearly see which option has the best value for your hard-earned money.
